Joseph Berenbaum was born in Canada on April 21, 1916. He graduated from the University of Denver, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1937, followed by a Juris Doctor degree in 1940. He was admitted to the practice of law in 1940.
Founding Berenbaum & Berenbaum with his brother, Mandel, after the Second World War, Mr. Berenbaum's practice initially involved working with construction, business and real estate clients. He has handled mergers of corporate clients that he incorporated with major companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Early in his practice, he represented home developers and, after working with various lenders, he began representing various institutional and other forms of commercial and residential real property lenders. He was involved in the expansion of various surrounding communities by handling annexations to the cities of Westminster, Littleton, Broomfield, Thornton, and other communities as well as properties located in unincorporated areas. Mr. Berenbaum continues to retain clients from various areas of the country who developed property in the Metropolitan Denver area, Aspen, Durango, and other areas of the State of Colorado. He has represented banks and other institutional lenders in the construction and financing of property in Colorado and other Western States.
Considered one of the premier business and real estate lawyers in the Rocky Mountain area, Mr. Berenbaum has been showered with many honors, both professional and community-related. Various awards include the Judge Learned Hand Human Relations Award from the American Jewish Committee in 1991 and the University of Denver Outstanding Alumnus Award in 1996. He has also served on many boards, including the United Way and the National Jewish Immunology and Research Center.
