Ms. Maes is a partner at Berenbaum Weinshienk & Eason, PC in Denver, Colorado. She practices environmental law and land use regulation and litigation.

Denise represents clients before administrative and judicial tribunals. She has extensive experience in the environmental laws that govern hazardous waste, including the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) and state law equivalents. Denise has represented companies in Colorado, Wyoming, Nevada, Montana, California and Washington. She represents clients in multi-party litigation matters and has successfully negotiated multiparty agreements involving Federal, State and Tribal entities. Denise provides day-to-day advice to clients on risk management and compliance issues. Her clients include entities doing business in the energy, mining and manufacturing areas.

In the area of land use regulation, Denise routinely advises and assists clients in land use disputes involving neighboring property owners and assists clients with zoning issues involving various municipal codes, enforcement agencies and neighborhood associations. She is well versed in municipal and administrative law.

Originally from New Mexico, Denise began her legal career in Denver as a law clerk to former Chief Justice Joseph R. Quinn of the Colorado Supreme Court. Following her clerkship, Denise was an associate with Holland & Hart. Denise is a graduate of the University of New Mexico School of Law.

Denise also is involved in many civic activities. She was appointed by Mayor Wellington E. Webb to the Denver Board of Water Commissioners and is now in her second term. She is the first woman to serve as president in the Board's 60+ year history. Denise is President of the Board of Mi Casa Resource Center for Women, Inc., a non-profit community group whose mission is to promote economic self-sufficiency for primarily low-income Latino women and girls and has served on the Mayor's Latino Advisory Council. Denise also serves on Kronke Sports' Hispanic Advisory Council.

She has served on the boards of the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association and the Colorado Women's Bar Association. She has volunteered for several federal, state and local political campaigns and, recently, was treasurer for the Rosemary Rodriguez for City Council campaign.
